Le Mesnil Gonfroy – Hambye, Normandy, France
Our holiday home Mesnil Gonfroy is situated in beautiful countryside just outside the town of Hambye. This typically French town is ideal for your morning excusion for croissants and fresh, warm bread. There is also a good small supermarket and several other shops, including a butchers. The village has a good bar/restaurant and a weekly pannier market. The renowned “L’Auberge de L’Abbee” can be reached on foot along a winding drove from the holiday house.
This beautiful part of Normandy is easy to reach, yet remains unspoilt. The authentic flavour of Normandy is visible all around: brown and white spotted cows, cider orchards and small family farms. The area is renowned for its delicious cheese, cider, pommeau and calvados – and of course the fresh fish and shellfish.
On the nearby coast there are wide, safe, sandy beaches and warm shallow water ideal for swimming. At low tide, local farmers can be seen with their tractors tending the acres of oyster and mussel beds, which is a fascinating sight to see.
Within easy reach of the house are the world famous Mont St Michel and the medieval town of Bayeux, with its ancient tapestry depicting the battle of Hastings. To the northeast are the historic World War II D-Day beaches of the Normandy landings: Gold, Omaha, Sword and Utah – not to mention the fascinating war museums at Arromanche, Caen etc.
