Looking for the ideal self-catering French villa for the first stages of the 2016 Tour de France?
Our stunning holiday letting is located in La Manche where the 2016 Grand Départ will take place, and the route of the Tour will pass right through our village of Hambye on Stage 2, so you can be right there for the action!
Our holiday property is ideally located so you can easily access the route for Stages 1, 2 and 3 – and get to see some of Normandy’s most incredible sights, too. From the tidal bay and iconic monastery of Mont St. Michel, to the world-famous cathedral of Coutances to the D-Day history of Utah Beach, you can see it all from your base at Le Mesnil Gonfroy, our honey-coloured stone farmhouse that sleeps up to 14 guests. If you’re coming with a smaller group or planning to head off early to catch other stages of the Tour de France, that’s OK too – we even offer discounts for smaller parties or stays less than 1 week (contact us for details).
Idyllic location in Normandy
After your days out watching the Tour de France or visiting the Normandy sights, you can relax on a sun lounger by the private heated pool, stroll through the beautiful Normandy countryside, spark up a barbecue or cosy up in our beautiful gardens or spacious living areas with your friends or family. Recommended restaurants near the route of the Tour de France
Watching all that activity is sure to build up an appetite, so we can recommend plenty of quintessentially French places to stop for refreshment or to refuel after a long day’s excitement. Here are just a few of our favourites:
Restaurant Auberge De L’Abbaye Hambye is situated near the River Sienne and the ruined abbey and only ten minutes drive from the house. Open for lunch and dinner. Lovely dining room and fairly sophisticated and pleasant ambiance with good food and not too expensive. Also some good seafood dishes including lobster. In summer it is lovely to have a drink on the terrace which is approached by steps at the far right hand end of the restaurant.
Hotel Restaurant Le Fruitier at Villedieu Les Poeles. L’Atelier is part of the Le Fruitier Hotel and is open every day during lunchtime and in the evenings. A modern bistro-style restaurant made to feel as if you are in the old bell foundry of Villedieu. Various menus to suit all tastes. Larger groups are accommodated in the main hotel and there is also a coffee lounge.
La Citadelle at Granville. This is a lovely seafood restaurant right on the harbour front with fresh fish and plateaux de fruits de mer. The grilled Chausey lobster is a speciality. It has a lovely ambience.
Restaurant Du Port is also in Granville. Again a seafood restaurant that specialises in its home-made paella. Open Tuesday to Sunday lunchtime. There are many lovely restaurants that look out onto the harbour front at Granville.
